Biology Scavenger Hunt (Organisms in different plant divisons) #10 (Last Post)

Pteridophytes.  Ferns are in this divison of plant life and they come third after seaweeds.

Angiosperms.  MacNut trees are in this group, and they come after ferns on the division scale.

Charophyceanes.  Alge, or Seaweed falls under this category, and comes second after mosses.  Typically a good example would be alge in the ocean, but I had to work with what I could find.

Bryophytes.  Moss!  This moss comes first in the plant divisions, and is fast growing and easily rooted.

Gymnosperm.  Pine trees, the last part of the divisions, and the largest of them all.  The picture isn’t that great, but the tallest tree is what I was trying to show.

Biology Scavenger Hunt (Organisms in the same class but different order) #9

Rodentia.  Or other wise known as rodents.  Although this guinea pig is skined and ready to eat, it is still apart of the rodent population.

Perissodactyla.  Cows and Horses are apart of this group, they are mammals, and vertibrates, so they classify in this class, even though the order it different.

Carnivores.  Dogs, and cats, are meat eaters so they and many other animals are apart of this grouping. This is my dog Bella.

Primate.  Me! Yes, humans are primates, and our fellow monkey brothers are in the same group.

Artiodactyla.  Lamas are apart of this group.  When I researched I thought that they would be in the Perissodactyla group, but later I found out that they actually belong to their own group.

Biology Scavenger Hunt (Organisms in Different Kingdoms) #8

Animal Kingdom. This is my cat Rascal, she is part of the animal kingdom. She is a multicelled organism, and the most complex organism in all the kingdoms.

Fungi Kingdom.  Yeasts are usually motionless  organisms that absorb nutrients for survival.  Along with some types of mold, and mushrooms, yeast is part of the fungi kingdom (bacteria).

Plant Kingdom.  Plants in this kingdom contain  chlorophyll, a green pigment necessary for photosynthesis, a process in  which plants convert energy from sunlight into food. This flower is really just a weed, but even though it is just a weed, it is still apart of the plant kingdom. (photo taken in Ecuador).

Monera Kingdom.  Rotten fruit, and yogurt are single-celled organisms that  don’t have a nucleus. Rotten fruit is bad bacteria, and will make you sick, unlike yogurt, which actually helps you.

Protists.  Algae is a protist because it is a single-celled organism that has a nucleus. I put this seaweed in a bowl of water because I wanted the viewer to understand that its algae, not dried seaweed.

Biology Scavenger Hunt (Carbohydrates) #7

Pasta.  This is a carbohydrate, because it is created from wheat.

Bagels are also made of wheat, and grains, so therefore they are in the carbohydrate group.

Taro.  Native Hawaiian carbohydrate.

Sweet Potatoe. Just like regluar potatoes, the sweet potatoe is also a carbohydrate.

Lastly, Tapioka.  Tapioka can be seen, in pearl form which is what is in the pudding, or in root form, and it can be used just like a potatoe.

Biology Scavenger Hunt (Individual Items part 4) #5

Seed Dispersal. This is a flower seed puff.  When the flower goes to seed, it turns into a puff, that can easily become airbourne; therefore it can disperse its seeds easier.

Territorial Behavior.  My dogs are constantly arguing about whos territory is whos.  Usually this kind of behavior can be easily seen with dogs and other mammals.  The alpha female usually has the last word, though.

Modified Leaf.  Cacti have modified their leaves to help themselves in the enviroment they live in.  The have evolved with spikes to keep away predators and the tough layer of their skin is to protect them from harsh enviroments.

Modified Stem.  This is a little weed called nut grass.  Nut Grass is has a stem, that grows under the ground like a root.  It changed with its enviroment, in order to get the most nutrients.

Modified Root.  Jacone (Ya-cone).  This is a modified root, because the root turns into a from of deruselum artachoke.  Just like the nut grass, Jacone has changed to better itself in the enviroment.

Biology Scavenger Hunt (Biomes) #1

This is a Mountain Biome, home to many differnt, colder weather organisms.

This is a jungle biome, home to wet land organisms and typical in Hawaii.

This is a beach biome, home to sea organisms, and sand creatures. This picture was taken in Ecuador.

As we drove to Cuenca, Ecuador we passed many grassland biomes, much like tundra in Africa.

River biomes are very common in the world, but not as common in Hawaii, which is full- of beach biomes.  Both are water oriented but they each hold different organisms.
